Word was received here early Friday morning (1 Feb 1935) of the death of Harold Braatz, 14, son of Robert Braatz, who died in the home of his sister, Mrs. Merlyn Stauffer at Minnesota Lake, Minn., at 4:15 o'clock. Death was due to pneumonia following a flu attack. The remains were brought here Friday afternoon and funeral services were held from St. Paul's Lutheran church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon with Rev. W. H. Discher in charge of services. Pall bearers were Herbert Vaudt, Leonard and Alfred Meyer, Clarence Struecker, August Vaudt, Jr., and Herman Behnke.
Honorary pall bearers were members of the confirmation class, namely Ernest Meyer, Edwin Schumacher, Harold Wehrspan, Norbert Zumach, Paul Potratz, Helen Hahn, Vera Dau. Two members, Ervin Vaudt and Merlyn Wagner, are attending St. Paul's Lutheran Seminary in St. Paul and were unable to be present. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery at Fairville.
Harold was born on a farm near Whittemore June 30, 1920. He was baptized in the Lutheran church by the late Rev. Faulstich and was a member of the confirmation class of March 25, 1934. His mother preceded him in death nine years ago. Surviving are his father, Robert Braatz, five sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Kourt of Milwaukee, Mrs. Lydia Stauffer of Minnesota Lake, Edna of Mankato, Esther and Elvina at home, a half sister. Mrs. Louis Braatz, three brothers, Ervin of Blue Earth, Minn., Herbert of Mapleton, Minn., and Ralph, member of the CCC camp at Council Bluffs.
