I am a descendant of John Hunter who arrived in South Australia end of 1847. He is William's son, who married Mary Henry, they had 3 boys and a girl. One son - born 1852, John moved to south-western Victoria in 1870s, married Sarah Jane Price in 1873.

This trace back to Ireland is the first link we have for the emigrating John Hunter snr.

Interested to see what else will crop up.

Hi
My ancestor is John's brother Edward who married Margaret then Mary. Are you interested in swapping information about their descendants. Unfortunately I, like others, don't know what happended to William and Elizabeth after they arrived in Australia.

Kind regards

I have looked on prov Vic which you can access death records I have found some records for hunters in and around Bendigo. John Hunter moved to Sandford in 1873 where he married Sarah Jane Price. Also worth checking Trove website as there are records for hunters. I look up the name and date of death as a starting point. I have found a number of articles which are stored on another computer and make for some interesting reading. Now I know someone else is looking for the same info it will be interesting what you find....
Regards Kelly.

I have found a few websites relating to john hunter and Mary Henry. Mary henry 's parents - john Henry and Janet Orr moved from Scotland around time land clearances. I would be interested in seeing what historical books may be available on Scotland and ireland, to see their names are mentioned. The hunters appear to be Presbyterian, whether continued to practice this once in Australia, I am yet to find out.

Which John Hunter married Mary Henry. I seem to be missing that data and in fact don't really have anything about William and Elizabeth's son John? Do you have that information. I might be able to research back in Scotland as I have done a fair bit of work in Scotland records over the years.

Hi there, just in case you do not know Edward, son of William and Elizabeth married Margaret McDonald in Burra, 1854 and she is buried in the Gaelic Cemetry at White Hut in South Australia.

Thank you for that information Michael. Do you know anything more about Margaret and why she was buried there? I have never been able to locate her parents.

helllo Jane,
We were directed to the cemetery by Helen Dickeson of Clare. Helen has written a book about the Clare Presbyterian Church 1856-1988. The book contains a lot of information about the early settlers of the Clare area, including a fair bit about the Hunters.
Helen provided us with a plan of the Gaelic cemetery and we have assumed that Margaret was a Presbyterian as she is buried there.
Margaret is quite a mystery, we have yet to date her arrival here in SA and we have no idea who her parents were.
Documented on Edward and Margarets marriage licence are Gordon McKay (very well know in the area) and Robert(Roberta?)McDonald as witnesses.
I have also been unable to find any early information about her daughter Wilhelmina.
I am Margarets great-granddaughter x3 and know very little about the women of my fathers family. I am keenly gathering what ever information I can.

Kind Regards
Prue and Michael

Hi Prue and Michael
I am also the 3 x GGrandaughter of Margaret and Edward. Williamina my 2 x GGrandmother married Charles Goodwin (also hard to find anything about. Their daughter Elizabeth who married William Threadgold is my Great Grandmother. Her daughter Linda Threadgold who married Colin Gill is my Grandmother and her daughter Tasma Gill who married Brian Martin is my mother.
How are you related. I guess if you have read the book that it doesn't shed any light of Margaret's family. I have been researching her (without success for 15 years!!) I am happy to share any information with you.
Kind regards
Jane Stillwell (nee Martin)
