I met a Darrell Byard in Memphis, TN who I had no idea i was kin too. His Grandfather (might be great grandfather was named William BYard. I spoke to my father, Kenneth Byard about that and he said his grandfather (my great grandfather) was named William Byard. Darrell Byard said his ancestors came to America 3 or 4 generations ago from Ireland. My father had the Byard name researched a few years ago and it said that Byard was English. I am curious what everyone else is finding out.

I have some research on the BYARD family.
My grandfather was Welsh (his father moved across the english/welsh border looking for work. I have traced my family back top 1798 in England (where I live).
I have never heard of any Irish Byards (the name certainly isn't Irish, I believe it's origins are french - Bayard).
There appears to be two or three main areas for the Byards in England : Derbyshire,Gloucestershire, and South Wales.

My Great Grandfathers' name was William Byard, His Fathers' name was Joseph. In the 1870 census, it said that Joseph was born in the West Indies in 1810 making him 60 and William who was also listed 16 being born in 1854. Willaims Son, Admus somehow got the name changed to the spelling Byirt. I'm assuming that both Byard and Byirt is not the name Joseph had when he left the West Indies. Admus had a brother I believe called Stut. Me e-mail is e_byirt@yahoo.com. Thank you

Hi Angela,
There are lots of Byards in and around the East Ham area in England. Have a look in the censuses. I have a marriage certificate for Lily Bayrd marrying a Alfred Karcheck, Dec 19. 1904 Lily had a twin sister Anna or Annie. Her father's is named as william.
Regards
Lynne
