Hello John Quaid. I was looking at something on the Athea page on Facebook - about the Athea Giant and decided to look it up on google. During my search I found this, which I presume you know about "There were also a number of other famous people from Athea, including the Ahern brothers of Olympian fame, David Quaid served with the Royal Munster Fusiliers from 1897–1909 he fought at the battles of Belmont, The Modder River and the Relief of Ladysmith during the Second Boer War in South Africa 1899–1902, he later served with his regiment in India under Lord Kitchener. David Quaid is buried in the "Old Graveyard" in Templeathea" . Now this I found very interesting because during a conversation with Jo and Eileen Scanlan a number of years ago that my grandfather was known as Kruger Tom. He was Thomas White and was probably living in Cratloe at the time. He was born in 1869 and married in 1903. You may not see this message because it is quite a number of years since you posted. Hopefully I will hear from you and perhaps you have managed to find something out.
