My father was born as Alex A. Johnston Jr., and that is how he shows up on census records until he was around 20. He changed his name to Ted David Johnston, and thereafter all of his records are under that name. Ancestry.com has created entries for him as Alex (from census records), and I have created entries for him as Ted, so it looks like they are brothers now, when in fact, they are the same person. I know there is the option to list an 'AKA' on his record, which I've done, but what is the best way to handle this on the tree? I don't really want to lose records/entries about him under his original name since that was his name for 20 years..... Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
