General Collection Information

The U.S. Public Records Index contains more than 400 million public records of individuals who lived in the United States between 1950 and 1993. Although the original information is available to the public by contacting the appropriate agency, this searchable database simplifies the process. Individuals under the age of 18 are not included in this index.

This index, especially when combined with city directories, is a great resource for confirming locality and family relationships. The information in this database may include the following:
